Our People - Senior Support Worker, Ocean Community Services
Name: Leah
Position: Senior Support Worker
Location: Ocean Community Services - Riverdale
How would you summarise your role?
“I run the shift and so I’m not only responsible for my own duties but also for delegating tasks out to other members of the team. I supervise 3 staff members. Part of my role is making sure that everyone is following the clients care plans accurately. I need to evaluate the clients care plans and also get involved in MDT meetings, including the 6 monthly reviews of clients. I’m responsible for handling both clients and house finances. I spend a lot of time with the clients and organise activities and outings for them. There is never a dull moment.”
Why do you like working for LSH?
“It’s the best company I’ve worked for. The training is excellent and the NVQ programme is very good, and I’m just completing level 3 in Health and Social Care. I’ve also just completed the companies’ e-learning pilot scheme which was great. There were several different modules covering a wide variety of subjects and I took a lot from that. There is a real team spirit within the company as a whole and that makes a real difference.”
How have you developed since joining LSH?
“I used to work for another care provider before I joined so I already had experience within this field. I was originally recruited to work at Heatherwood Court, our hospital in Pontypridd, but came to Riverdale as part of my induction before the hospital opened. I loved it so much here that I decided to stay. I feel I’ve learned and developed a lot since being here and have progressed from the role of Support Worker to my current position as a Senior. I feel really supported in my role and that gives me the confidence to do a really good job.”
Would you recommend working at LSH to a friend?
“Yes – I already have.”
