Our People - Support Worker, Ocean Community Services, Riverdale

Name: Jeremy
Position: Support Worker
Location: Ocean Community Services – Riverdale, Cardiff

Support Worker, Cardiff

How would you summarise your role?

“I support clients with their daily living skills including washing, preparing food, cooking, ironing and managing budgets.  They enjoy various other activities including things like swimming and badminton and it’s enjoyable for me to see them enjoying these things. One of our clients likes working on an allotment so I spend a lot of time there too. When clients need to go to different places I’ll take them, may be to a doctor’s or dentist appointment, or a shopping trip. The role is very varied so I never get bored.”

Why do you like working for LSH?

“I used to be a lorry driver and this job couldn’t be more different. I really enjoy it, and the pay is good. I’ve had lots of different jobs in the past but I think I’ve finally found one that I’m good at. I’ve been here for 3 years and I love it. You can progress and develop a career which is really good.”

How have you developed since joining LSH?

“I came in as a trainee and didn’t really have a clue at the start. Since then I’ve done NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care. The Company training is ongoing and I feel like I learn something everyday. I’ve had training in areas including Health & Safety, Autism, First Aid and Fire Safety. I’ve worked for companies where you are just a number but Ludlow Street really looks after you and I’m really happy in my role.”

Would you recommend working at LSH to a friend?

“Yes- I have recommended several people already and will continue to do so in future.”
