Our People - Support Worker, Llanbedr Court
Name: Jane
Position: Support Worker
Location: Llanbedr Court, Newport
How would you summarise your role?
“My day is spent supporting clients, encouraging them and prompting them to do things and keep themselves busy. A lot of our clients lack motivation so I have to work very closely with them to ensure they are motivated every day. Some of our clients need very close support and you have to build up a good level of trust with them to get them to respond positively. Some of the ways we stimulate them include playing games, bingo, cards etc and playing music or working in our horticultural polytunnel. We also take them out for meals and shopping trips. Anything that keeps their spirits up.”
Why do you like working for LSH?
“I’ve been with the company for 3 years so I must enjoy it! I find the management team to be very approachable and they will always do what they can to help me with my role. The company also has good ideas and incentives. I recently won the £500 pounds attendance bonus!”
How have you developed since joining LSH?
“When I started I already had NVQ level 2 in Health & Social care and was part way through level 3. I was able to complete level 3 after I joined. I didn’t know that much about mental health when I joined although I had done some support work in the community, but I’ve learned so much since being here. There are great resources within the business. The training is very good and the psychology department are also a really good source of information.”
Would you recommend working at LSH to a friend?
