Residential Education Worker, Sully

How would you summarise your role?

“I try to give the student a very structured day. We provide a constant level of support and reduce their levels of anxiety. I’ve recently done some work to introduce an evening curriculum for the students to add additional structure to their day and help with their development outside of the classroom setting. We like to promote a healthy lifestyle for the clients helping them to make the right choices with their diets and also encouraging regular exercise. We help them with other social activities and outings. Prior to these I will carry out a risk assessment to ensure the environments we go into are safe and suitable for the students.”

Why do you like working for LSH?

“It’s a challenge. There’s a lot of job satisfaction knowing that you make peoples lives better. You have to be persistent and it can be very hard, but you do see real results. You have good days and bad, but I would recommend it to anyone. My confidence has improved greatly since working here and I’m much better equipped to deal with pressurised situations now.”

How have you developed since joining LSH?

“I’ve been working for the company for about 1.5 years. As I’ve said, my confidence and awareness of what’s expected is much better. The de-escalation training is very helpful and has helped me greatly. I’m currently doing NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care.”

Would you recommend working at LSH to a friend?

“Yes.”
