Our People - Senior Support Worker, Heatherwood Court
Name: Angharad
Position: Senior Support Worker
Location: Heatherwood Court
How would you summarise your role?
“I try to promote the independence of the clients as well as organise the daily running of the shifts. We organise lot’s of activities for the clients as well as basic everyday tasks such as trips to the shops, dental appointments etc. I also have to plan for clients section 17 leave and ensure everything is in place such as transport. We hold meetings in the mornings to communicate any relevant information about the clients. I also work closely with the OT department to ensure clients attend the sessions that are available and remain motivated enough to participate. A big part of my role is talking and listening to the clients and generally offering them emotional support.”
Why do you like working for LSH?
“I really enjoy my job and every day is different. It’s a really good team at Heatherwood and also throughout the company as a whole. There’s a real sense of team spirit here. There are also great opportunities for training and progression.”
How have you developed since joining LSH?
“I've been with the company for over 2 years now. I started as a Trainee Support Worker and progress through to Support Worker and subsequently to my current position. I used to work in residential care before I joined Ludlow Street so I had no specific experience of Mental Health. I’ve learned a great deal from some of the more experienced support staff that I’ve worked with here and the nursing team are also really helpful. I’ve currently got NVQ level 2 in Health & Social Care and I hope to do level 3 soon.”
