Occupational Therapy Technician,
Beechwood / OCS

How would you summarise your role?

“I help clients work towards more independent living. Firstly I’ll find out what their needs and interests are and then try to help them feel more confident within certain activities. It could involve things such as taking them out into the community or getting involved in the activities such as using the Polytunnel. We take the clients on activities such as bike rides, swimming, cooking, budgeting and accessing public transport. We focus on any other activities that help to promote a healthy lifestyle. Some clients have even started voluntary work. We like to try to promote their independence where possible and maintaining their motivation is also critical.”

Why do you like working for LSH?

“I’ve had lots’ of encouragement and support since I joined. The team within OT is great and the wider team throughout the rest of the organisation is also really good. It’s a very positive working environment.”

How have you developed since joining LSH?

“I had experience of working in care within the community with clients with mental health issues. When I started with Ludlow Street I was working in Llanbedr Court as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. I then completed NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care and that allowed me to apply for my current position as Occupational Therapy Technician. The training is very good and I’m still receiving ongoing personal development.”

Would you recommend working at LSH to a friend?

“Yes – I already have.”
