Our People - Senior Staff Nurse, Heatherwood Court
Name: Colleen
Position: Senior Staff Nurse
Location: Heatherwood Court
How would you summarise your role?
“As a Senior Staff Nurse my main responsibility is to provide high standards of care to the clients and ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to. I work very closely with the clients and ensure that their care plans are accurate and updated. I spend a lot of time communicating with the clients and providing them with general support. We try to encourage social skills and work closely with the Occupational Therapy department. We use a lot of DBT on my unit. I am also responsible for managing the support team and working closely with my Unit Leader.”
Why do you like working for LSH?
“The induction is second to none. The initial 2 week training is excellent. The support you receive is ongoing. The annual leave entitlement is also better than I’ve experienced elsewhere. The management are really supportive and there are very clear and consistent policies and procedures which everyone has to follow. There is a lot of focus on Health and Safety and there is always some refresher training happening to ensure our knowledge is kept up to date.”
How have you developed since joining LSH?
“I started with the company as a Staff Nurse and then progressed to a Senior Staff Nurse position. And I am currently Acting Unit Leader. The company provides excellent training and are also receptive if you suggest additional training you would like, which is not already in place. Career development is important for me and I’ve had some great opportunities since joining Ludlow Street Healthcare.”
Would you recommend working at LSH to a friend?
“Yes – I already have.”
