Occupational Therapist, Llanbedr Court

How would you summarise your role?

“My role is to provide therapeutic interventions for the clients. I try to give them structured activities to help them to become more independent and maintain their current skills. We also try to ensure they build their confidence within both the unit and the community setting. I manage the Occupational Therapy team at Llanbedr and provide them with support, supervision and guidance. I also liaise with other departments including, Psychology, Speech & Language Therapists, Nursing and Psychiatry to ensure the clients receive the treatment they need.”

Why do you like working for LSH?

“I love my clinical work, providing clinical treatment to the clients. I always try to engage with the clients. Ludlow Street is good because I get the resources I need to provide a good service. Our Clinical Lead allows us to be creative and “think outside of the box” which gives us the opportunity to engage the clients in ways that may not be possible elsewhere.”

How have you developed since joining LSH?

“I’ve been with the company for 5 years and was here when Llanbedr Court opened. I came in to set up the OT service here and it’s been really good to see how the service has grown and developed during that time. Personally, my management and organisational skills have improved greatly during this time. I have a much greater insight into healthcare in general. I’ve had to raise standards continually and am really accountable for what I do. The training is good here and there are always opportunities for additional training and personal development.”

Would you recommend working at LSH to a friend?

“Yes, but I’d tell them it’s hard work. I’d also tell them it would be good for their career development. The clinical leadership is really strong and there is always the opportunity to be creative in the way that you work here.”
